1.1 Unhappily Ever After: No Fairytale

Yu Hye Ra had everything, well almost everything. She was born into a very wealthy and affluent family in Seoul, South Korea. She was beautiful, she was smart and she was married to an amazing businessman. But there was one thing wrong with her, she was overweight and that amazing businessman wasn’t such an amazing husband. See Goo Jin Soo didn’t really love Hye Ra he constantly cheated on her and he only married her for her money. But she could not see that all she knew was that she had married her high school crush.

Hye Ra didn’t have many friends in high school. Her classmates often tormented her because of her appearance. She tried so hard to fit in but they never would accept her. She had the hugest crush on of the most popular boys in school, but he didn’t even know her name and his girlfriend made her life a living hell. She often recalled the time she embarrassed her in front of the entire school. She wrote a note to Hye Ra from Jin Soo and put it in her locker asking her to meet him on the soccer field. The when Hye Ra came out onto the field she was chanting big fat Hye Ra and carrying around an oversized picture of her in her underwear while the entire school stood around laughing. Hye Ra cried her eyes out and missed a week of school after that. But marrying Goo Jin Soo had been her revenge.

Jin Soo was a tall and handsome athlete who played soccer in high school. He was so good that he had gotten a scholarship to one of the most prestigious schools in Seoul. He could have had any girl he wanted but in his freshman year of college he got severely injured. Jin Soo lost his scholarship and any hopes he had of ever playing soccer professionally. His parents could not afford to pay for his schooling themselves so he had to move back home and get a job. Jin Soo worked several dead end jobs but nothing ever stuck. Then one day after four years of slaving an opportunity presented itself.

The shy overweight girl who had a crush on him in high school had come home from college to bury her parents and to take over the family business. Yu Hye Ra’s family were the owners of a highly successful chain of international restaurants by the name of The Yusaki Lounge, it had made them billions. And to Jin Soo’s advantage Hye Ra was still shy, overweight and now vulnerable as well. He saw her as easy prey just waiting for prince charming to come sweep her off of her feet. Within a few months they were married and he was basically running her company. He had even convinced her to give him a position as COO and several shares of her company.

After he had gotten what he wanted he became verbally and physically abusive ruining Hye Ra’s happy ending to what she thought was her fairytale. Then he started cheating with women who worked for their company. He constantly berated her about her weight, appearance and the fact that she couldn’t bear children. He also flaunted his affairs around town with no respect for her or her feelings. Hye Ra was stuck. She loved her husband but it was apparent that he didn’t love her and now his secretary was pregnant with his child.

“Hye Ra did you hear me?” Jin Soo asked. “I said I want a divorce.” He said.

Hye Ra could feel her heart in her throat. She was frozen in place. She could see Jin Soo’s lips moving but she was sure that she couldn’t quite hear what he was saying. There was no way that he had just said what she thought he did not on their five-year anniversary in a restaurant full of people. There was no way possible that the love of her life would embarrass her like that especially after everything thing else he had already done to hurt her.

“What?” Hye Ra stammered.

“I said I want a divorce, Ming Na is pregnant and I want to ask her to marry me." He said.

“Ming Na your secretary?” Hye Ra asked.

“Yes don’t act like you didn’t already know this was coming, you knew she was having baby and you knew that I was no longer sexual attracted you.” Jin Soo said. “I don’t love you Hye Ra, it was just a matter of time before I asked for a divorce.” He added.

“Ming Na your secretary that works at my company?” Hye Ra asked.

“Well yes, our company I own quite a few shares.” He replied as he poured himself a second glass of wine.

“You bastard.” She whispered angrily as she started to cry.

“Me?” He asked stunned. “You are the one that couldn’t stop eating and lose weight.” He said. “Am I suppose to have sex with you looking like that?” he asked angrily. “And what about the kids I wanted, you can’t even have children.” He added.

“Its not enough to embarrass me now you want to be cruel too?” she asked as she glared at Jin Soo.

“Don’t make this awkward let’s just eat dinner and then go our separate ways.” Jin Soo said.

“Did you really think I would just sit here calmly after you insult me and ask for a divorce so you can continue to screw your secretary you knocked up!” she yelled as she slammed her fist on the table. “Did you think that you could bring me to some fancy restaurant and I wouldn’t cause a scene!” she yelled. “Well you are sadly mistaken!” she exclaimed.

“Stop it!” Jin Soo said angrily through clenched teeth.

“Tell me did you ever really love me?” Hye Ra asked in tears.

“Please don’t do this.” Jin Soo begged as he lowered his head.

“Answer me!” she yelled as everyone in the restaurant began to stare.

“No.” He whispered with his head still lowered not making eye contact.

Hye Ra gasped she felt as if all the wind had been knocked out of her. She was speechless as she placed her hand to her mouth in shock. She began to shake her head in disbelief and to cry hysterically. She leapt up from her seat and slapped Jin Soo across the face.

“I have lost my appetite.” She said calmly as she took a deep breath and left the restaurant.
